Hello again. I’ve been doing a stint at the Oakland Review of Books (uh huh, we made one), so my bit for the day is over here. Back here tomorrow? Perhaps?

(Previously I went to the opera, saw a gay movie and attended the spicy release party. In the future I hope to read a book.)

The Greater Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) has zygodactylic feet, leaving X-shaped tracks with ambiguous direction. The Pueblo and Hopi used the X symbol to mislead evil spirits. Border folklore in the early twentieth century held that a roadrunner would lead a lost traveler back to his path. In Mexico the roadrunner is known as paisano, countryman.
