[The Roof Rat Review.]

George Steiner. The Death of Tragedy. Yale University Press, 1996 (1961). A good read for anyone feeling aesthetically obsolete. The young Steiner presents himself as a wide-ranging Europeanist and this book, like Mimesis, leaves you hungry for a bunch of fringe-canonical literature (nineteenth-century plays, mostly) you never knew you had to read.
